FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes ceremonial grade different from raw cacao or cacao powder?
Not all cacao is created equal. Ceremonial grade cacao is made from rare, heirloom Criollo beans — the most prized variety — minimally processed to preserve their full nutritional and energetic profile. Unlike commercial cacao powder (which is heavily processed and stripped of its natural fats) or raw cacao (which varies widely in quality), our ceremonial cacao is stone-ground into a pure paste with nothing added or removed. This preserves the full spectrum of antioxidants, magnesium, and mood-supporting compounds, as well as the subtle, complex flavour that makes it truly special.
What is ceremonial grade Criollo cacao?
Ceremonial grade Criollo cacao is the purest, most revered form of cacao available. Criollo is one of the rarest cacao varieties in the world, prized for its delicate, complex flavour and exceptional nutritional profile. Used for centuries in sacred Mesoamerican traditions, ceremonial cacao is minimally processed — stone-ground into a pure paste — to preserve its full spectrum of natural compounds, including antioxidants, magnesium, iron, and mood-supporting theobromine.
How do I prepare ceremonial cacao?
Preparing ceremonial cacao is a simple, mindful ritual. Grate or chop 20–28g of cacao paste. Heat 200–250ml of water or plant-based milk until just below boiling (around 70–80°C). Whisk or blend together until smooth and frothy. Add natural sweetener to taste (raw honey, maple syrup, or dates work beautifully). Sit quietly, set an intention, and enjoy slowly.
Where does your cacao come from?
Our ceremonial cacao is sourced from Peru, home to some of the world's finest Criollo cacao. We work with small-scale farmers who use traditional, sustainable growing practices — ensuring the highest quality beans while supporting the communities that have cultivated cacao for generations.
What is the recommended dosage?
Microdose (10–15g) — Daily wellness dose. Gentle energy, focus, and mood support. Great for morning routines, work, or creative flow without intensity.
Moderate / Heart-Opening Dose (20–28g) — The most common ceremonial dose. Promotes emotional openness, warmth, presence, and deeper connection. Ideal for meditation, yoga, journaling, or intention-setting.
Full Ceremonial Dose (40–42g) — For experienced users in a dedicated ceremonial setting. Deep heart-opening, heightened awareness, and spiritual clarity. Not recommended for beginners or daily use.
Individual sensitivity varies — always start low and increase gradually.
Can I use it in recipes?
Absolutely! While our cacao shines in its traditional ceremonial preparation, it's also a beautiful ingredient in the kitchen. Because it's pure, minimally processed cacao paste, it melts easily and adds a rich, complex chocolate flavour to a wide range of recipes. Try it in smoothies and smoothie bowls, bliss balls and raw desserts, homemade chocolate bars, cacao lattes and hot chocolates, porridge and overnight oats, or baked goods like brownies and cakes. The high fat content (from the natural cacao butter) means it blends smoothly without the bitterness of commercial cacao powder.
Is ceremonial cacao safe for everyone?
Ceremonial cacao is a powerful plant food and is not suitable for everyone. Avoid or consult your healthcare provider if you: are taking antidepressants or MAOIs (serious interaction risk), have a heart condition or high blood pressure, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are highly sensitive to caffeine or theobromine. Always start with a lower dose to assess your personal sensitivity. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
